The I-Love-You-Amy-Butler-Wherever-You-Are Dress

Sometimes I sit right down and think about the amazing the people I grew up. Danielle Wilson is no exception. She has a inspiring blog called My Sparkle which I have been following for about two years now (she doesn't even know, I haven't talked to her since college- which is so sad for me). She was selected as one of the designers for Project Run and Play  and just completed her first submission. Check it out- and vote for her. Oh, she's going to win.

Project Run and Play is set up so the "viewers" can participate in the projects too- so I decided to play. This week's challenge was to "remix" the Junebug dress from Craftiness is Not Optional.

Since I've never designed anything before or shall I say remixed anything before, this project was a challenge! First I made the bodice of the Junebudress and fit, and refit(ted?) it until I had the right uh....fit. Once I had my pattern pieces, I changed them around and sewed and re-sewed until I had something I liked. This is what I came up with:

The back of the dress with wide hem- I have a lot of fabric tucked up in there so I can let it out when E grows.
It doesn't look a lot like the original Junebug dress but it was made following the pattern. It's just switched up a bit. The back bodice piece and the front sides of the Junebug dress make up the jacket of this one. Also the construction of the dress is very similar to the Junebug dress construction.
The dress on the wiggly model

I kept the dress pattern simple because the print is so bold (fabric by Amy Butler- Love her stuff...hence the name of the dress :) but I like things nice a simple. I really love the super short dress bodice and full, long skirt. I used grey corduroy for the jacket and lined it with the same material as the dress. The sleeves of the jacket were tricky for me (I might still go back and work on them a little) but I was really pleased with how the sleeve pleats, gathers, and binding turned out.

I haven't had this much fun sewing EVER!

The Chair

I found this chair and I brought it home. My hubby replaced the broken rung, sanded the whole thing down (not an easy task), and refinished the chair for me. We recovered the seat and yay! New desk chair.
This rung was split in half, so a new rung was carved to replace it.

Sanding

Still sanding- yuck, not the best part.

LOVE.
